4- Take a hike to YemmaGouraya: How to talk about Bejaïa without mentioning her patron saint? YemmaGouraya is a mountain that overlooks the city at over 660m altitude. At the top is perched a fort located in a protected area. Many legends try to explain the origin of the name, attributing it to a sage, the Spaniards or even its own inhabitants. Another local legend: in nice weather, one can glimpse the curves of a woman on the top of the mountain.
5- Have a picnic at Lake Mézaia:
Privided in the city center on an area of 2.5 hectares, Mézaia Lake is a deserted wetland but would benefit from being maintained. 35 animal species are to be discovered during your walk on the spot.
For the anecdote, the lake owes its existence to a clay deposit that fed a brick factory. One day, by digging too deeply, the water tables have risen and since that day the lake has assumed its final shape.
6- Have a coffee at the Place du 1er Novembre and an ice cream at “Da Ali Vou la glace”:
The Place du 1 Novembre, well known as Gueydon Square, is the central square of the city, with a view of the harbor. Hosting the cinematheque and cafes with terraces, this is the ideal place for a little relaxation in the city center. A little lower, the mythical Da Ali Vou ice cream will refresh you with its ice creams.
7-To discover the cave of Aokas: True natural treasure and of a splendor of which only lady nature possesses the secret, the marvelous cave is made of mysterious forms brilliant of crystalline matter. It is located 25 km east of the capital of the wilaya.
8-Take a trip to Cape Sigli:
Renowned for its biodiversity, the richness of its submarine fauna and its virgins natural views, Cape Sigli is also known for its mythical octagonal lighthouse dating from the early 20th century. It is located 40 km west of Bejaia and is well worth a visit.
